QUENCHING THE FIRE OF DESIRE
Do you ever feel needy, hungry, empty or insatiable, no matter what you get? You know the feeling all too well: an emptiness in the belly, a burning in the groin, or a longing in the heart. Your pulse, thoughts and energy grow from mild to wild the longer you go without the object of your desire.
In this day and age, we are hypnotised into wanting more things, new things which are usually things we do not need. Everything we buy or take on makes our lives more complicated and takes our time and occupies mental head-space.
In reality, we can only find enduring happiness within ourselves. The material items we crave can only bring us brief satisfaction because as human nature is, once we have got that which we thought would make us happier, the desire once again kicks in, searching for that something to fill the void.
The reason for this vicious circle is that many of our interests taught to us by society aren’t true to us. We are actually all self-contained units, capable of contentment at all times. Man is deluded by his unlimited desires; he is living in a dream world and forgetting his higher consciousness.
Man is the embodiment of divine consciousness. Only when he is pure, he can experience that consciousness. Through attachment to worldly pleasures man gets bound to the physical and becomes oblivious to his essential divinity.

Quenching the fire of desire leads us on the path to spiritual awakening which takes us further than good feelings, because these temporary respites from desire are illusions in the desire of craving. Instead, awakening takes us towards peace.
The truth is that the greatest peace we find within ourselves comes from desiring nothing. We can be totally at peace with ourselves and with life as is. True inner peace needs nothing external to you.
Inner peace is the thing we really want, but most people don’t know this. We’ve been taught to not look for it or not believe that it will bring us anything we really want. We are distracted by passing excitements, base sexual urges, and other temporary fixes that only mitigate our pain and unhappiness, most of which we do not fully understand.
Ultimately, true inner peace is beyond a specific feeling; it teaches us to embrace all feelings, thoughts, and experiences. In so doing, that is precisely what enlivens our lives and gives them flow, vitality, and colour.
To conclude, desire is a heavy burden to carry and it is continuously expanding on the assumption that you do not already have what you need. As the saying goes: Less Luggage, More Comfort. Quenching your fire of desire will not only leave you lighter, but will also save you money, and help you lead a stress-free and simple life.
I am smiling at myself today, there’s no wish left in this heart or perhaps there is no heart left. Free from all desire, I sit quietly like Earth...
